In 2003 Lund arranged an international architecture competition for a visitor's centre for Lund's Cathedral and a Tourist Centre for the city of Lund. The competition area assigned was south of the church, and the in the competition was included spaces for private consolation and a larger hall for worship or devotion. Patchwork decided to split the two activities into two buildings - letting the tourist centre be placed into the block structure south of the church, while the visitor's centre was allowed to run along the cathedral's south facade to enhance the place around the church. The worship and consolation rooms were then put with a view of a new-designed garden allowing seclusion and sunlight to play in windows and trees.
